The Rhode Island Rams secured a powerful verbal commitment Sunday afternoon when highly recruited Orion Outerbridge selected the Rams. The 6-foot-9 Massachusetts native and current New Hampton power forward, had been recruited by Fordham, St. Joe's, Miami, Duquesne, LaSalle and Virginia at different times this fall.
Outerbridge took his official visit this weekend. "The campus and the players were great. I love the style of play and Coach Skerry recruited me hard. I just finished my official visit and I liked it a lot."
Last season at New Hampton, Outerbridge averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds. A versatile big man, he's accustomed to playing facing the basket and that was URI's primary pitch to him.
"Most of the schools recruiting me were looking for a big man which I am," Outerbridge said. "They wanted a back-to-the-basket guy. My game is as a 4-man and I can step out and shoot it and they saw that. That's how I'm most effective and comfortable. Plus they're losing three of their best players next year and it'll be a chance for me to come in and play right away."
