Van Treese Hits The Visit Trail

Stephan Van Treese has been busy the past few weeks. The coveted big man out of Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North recently took three unofficial visits and his list of schools is starting to take shape.

This past week Stephan Van Treese made a swing through North Carolina to check out a pair of schools. He started off with Wake Forest and then made the trip to Chapel Hill to see what the Tar Heels had to offer.

"I had a lot of fun," Van Treese said. "I liked both campuses and I enjoyed my time there."

"At both campuses I did the same thing," he continued. "I met with an academic advisor and I got to see the campus and I got to meet the players and they showed me around and everything."

Van Treese, who is ranked No. 40 overall in the 2009 class by, said Wake Forest recently got into the mix and during his visit they stepped up with a scholarship offer.

"It just picked up during the summer and they've been coming to my open gyms," he said of the Demon Deacons' interest. "They did offer me, too. It reminds me kind of like Notre Dame. Their academics are real high and it's small like Notre Dame with the student body."

While the Demon Deacons put a scholarship offer on the table, the Tar Heels told him need a little more time to evaluate the 6-foot-9, 220-pound post prospect.

"I like North Carolina a lot," Van Treese said. "They didn't offer me. Roy hasn't seen me play yet and he said he doesn't offer players that he hasn't seen yet. He said he was going to come see me play the first couple weeks of our season."

A week prior to his visits to Wake Forest and UNC, Van Treese made the two-hour drive from Indianapolis to Louisville to check out Louisville's campus and meet with Rick Pitino.

"I enjoyed it," said Van Treese, who has a scholarship offer from the Cards. "Their facilities are amazing. Everything there was real nice."

To go with offers from Wake Forest and Louisville, he also claims offers from Xavier, UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Purdue. Van Treese said Kansas, Florida, Duke and North Carolina round out his list of 13 schools.

Although he's nowhere near ready to make his college decision, Van Treese said he plans to do some research during the season. He also hopes to cut his list before the end of his junior year.

"I'm definitely going to start watching all the coaches this year because I'm getting the game day package for T.V.," he said. "I'm just going to watch and pay attention to the coaching styles. I'm going to narrow down my list during the season.
