2009 Introduction: Chase Tapley

Chase Tapley, a 2009 guard from Sacramento, is drawing early interest from a wide variety of schools...

Chase Tapley, 6-1 JR PG/SG Sacramento (Calif.) High, is an intriguing prospect who might play either guard spot in college. Tapley is adept at getting to the basket and he's a strong kid. His outside shot needs to improve, but he does have potential as a prospect.

I spoke with Tapley recently and he gave me a list of schools that have been in contact with him.

"Baylor, Kentucky, San Diego State, Santa Clara, St. Mary's, Cal, Stanford and Washington," said Tapley.

When I asked if he had a leader, Tapley replied, "probably Baylor, San Diego State, Stanford, Cal and Washington would be the top ones."

Tapley said San Diego State, St. Mary's and Baylor have each sent coaches to his high school recently. He said Baylor has extended a scholarship offer.

Tapley talked a little about the things he is looking for in a school.

"I want to be comfortable with the school, and it's a family decision, so my family needs to be comfortable also," said Tapley. "How I interact with the coaches will be important. And the area around the school – I think I'd probably like to be close to a big city."

Tapley said he's in no hurry to reach a decision.

"I'll probably play through next summer before I decide," said Tapley.

Tapley said he has a 3.1 GPA.
