Gibson Ticketed For ACC

A young man with a big ceiling is headed to the ACC. Xavier Gibson, a 6-foot-10 insider, made his choice on Wednesday.

Xavier Gibson will play in the ACC. Since his sophomore season, the Seminoles have been right there with him, along with Alabama.

"Xavier Gibson committed to Florida State. He narrowed it down from West Virginia, Alabama and Florida State," Herman Porter of the Georgia Blazers told Scout.com.

At the end of the process, the 1 ½ ride from Dothan to FSU's campus weighed in on the decision. "I'll tell you what his dad said," Porter told Scout.com. What it was it turned out the proximity had a lot to do with it. All the coaches there had a taste of the NBA. The leading factor was what Leonard Hamilton does for big men."

Ranked No. 54 in the Class of 2008, Gibson has been a household name on the circuit for three years. A prospect long on talent and ability, he's shown glimpses of who he can be and was ticketed for a high level since his freshman season when he burst onto the scene at the Boo Williams Invitational.

"Once Xavier gets strong and really comes to play every night he can be unstoppable. We've seen flashes of it. Once that green light turns on; another year of basketball he may be unstoppable. We saw the potential early and once he gets stronger and gets the mean street it'll be on."
