The Marquette Golden Eagles, courtesy of a tie-in from assistant Buzz Williams, are developing strong ties to the state of Texas. On Sunday, Fort Bend (Tex.) Bush senior center Chris Otule selected the program after considering Baylor and Nebraska.
Outle is a late developing big man who literally went from guard to center size over the summer. "He grew 7 inches over the summer," coach Ronnie Courtney said. "He left us at 6-foot-3 and is now 6-10.
Courtney, a former college head coach, said he watched tapes from last year but it isn't the same prospect. "I knew he would need more skills and he's progressed tremendously."
Last month, Marquette scored junior small forward Erik Williams from the Lone Star State. Now Marquette has struck again in the state. Otule was scouted by the likes of UConn, Cincinnati, Boston College and a host of others but it was Marquette that locked him down on his first visit.
"I don't know what he saw there but he obviously really liked it and it was convincing enough for him to commit. He's a versatile player who can play with his back-to-the-basket and also face up. I expect him to get major minutes his first season at Marquette."
