Ryan Sypkens, 6-2 JR PG Elk Grove (Calif.) Franklin, is one of the better point guard prospects in the west for 2009. Sypkens has great size for the one and he might end up playing both guard spots in college.
I spoke with Sypkens recently and he gave me a list of schools that he's currently interested in.
"Santa Clara, San Diego, Pacific, UC Davis and St.Mary's," said Sypkens.
Sypkens said UC Davis has extended a scholarship offer.
Sypkens has taken unofficial visits to Davis, Santa Clara and St. Mary's. I asked him if anything stood out from his visits.
"I liked Santa Clara," said Sypkens. "I think Coach Keating is one of the best coaches I've met. I really like the way they run things there."
I asked Sypkens what he's looking for in a school.
"Mostly, I want to go somewhere that I'll like being there," said Sypkens. "Someplace where I can succeed and get better. I'd like to stay fairly close to home, but that's not saying I wouldn't go far away."
Sypkens is in no hurry to reach a decision.
"I'll probably play through the summer and decide during my senior year," said Sypkens.
Sypkens said he has a core GPA of 3.2.
