Kent State Lands Swingman

Kent State coach Jim Christian reached out and nabbed an athletic swingman. He's Kent State's first commitment of the year.

Johnson Picks Kent State

Demetrius Johnson only needed one visit. He knew where he wanted to go and made it happen. On Monday, he committed to Kent State and head coach Jim Christian.

"I think it was the atmosphere with the coaches and how everything just seemed like more of a family," Johnson said. Apparently, he's a big Jim Christian fan. "You could just tell by the person he is. He's just a real down to earth person. I was happy and I felt comfortable with him."

Johnson said that he received scholarship offers from Akron, Marshall, Cleveland State, West Virginia and St. Bonaventure.

Last season, he averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds. He played last summer for Mike Duncan's Cleveland Basketball Club.

At Kent State, he'll play more than one position. "They want me to swing from the one, two and three. I'll play anything they want me to play and just go out there and play hard."
