National Prep Showcase Tips Friday

The National Prep Showcase gets underway this Friday at 1 p.m. at UMass Lowell. The featured game pits Tyreke Evans (No. 4, of American Christian, against the nation's top post-grad, 7-foot-2 big man John Riek of the Winchendon School on Saturday at 3 p.m. However, by our count, there are more than 20 players ranked in the Top 100 by one national analyst or another.

Pre-Season Prep Poll

The National Prep Showcase, which features arguably the 20 elite prep schools in the country, begins Friday at UMass Lowell.

More than 20 players ranked in the Top 100 by one national recruiting analyst or another will be on display from Nov. 16-18 - including's No. 4 player in the Class of 2008, Tyreke Evans.

The annual event (schedule below) will be held at UMass Lowell in Lowell, Mass. Games begin Friday at 1 p.m.

It will include many of the top committed and uncommitted players in the nation. The 7-foot-2 Riek, who has been re-classified as a post-grad and will have numerous NBA teams watching, will go up against Evans and American Christian (Pa.) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

In addition to other elite seniors such as Devin Ebanks (Indiana), DeAndre Liggins (Kentucky), Nate Miles (UConn), Emmanuel Negedu (Arizona), Chris Braswell (Georgetown), Anthony Crater (Ohio State), Terrence Jennings (Louisville), Matt Simpkins (uncommitted), Courtney Fortson (Arkansas), Deividas Dulkys (Florida State), Isaiah Thomas (Washington), there are also highly ranked juniors such as Alex Oriakhi (UConn), Jamal Coombs (UConn), Maurice Creek (uncommitted), Clarence Trent (uncommitted) and Jin Soo Kim (Maryland). Also, it'll be a chance to get a first-hand look at a pair of rising stars – South Kent sophomore guard Dion Waiters, who has already committed to Syracuse, and American Christian's talented freshman Ashcraf Yacoubou.
