TUESDAY: The Countdown Begins!
8:05 p.m. Add these to the firm list of kids who won't sign. Maurice Sutton, Verdell Jones and Willie Warren. It would be out of left field if Warren signed early.
8:03 p.m. 18th ranked post grad Kendall Durant commits to Virginia Tech.
5:00 p.m. Center Gene Swindle of Gulliver Prep is headed to the ACC. He's a Hokie.
3:45 p.m. The braintrust at Scout.com for football, in this case Bob Lichtenfels and Jamie Newberg, feel that Terrelle Pryor is leaning towards playing football and hoops in college. He was most recently spotted on Ohio State's campus.
3:30 p.m. Chris Singleton will have two hats at the school -- Florida State and Kentucky. All signs still point to Florida State. "With Chris, you never know," a source close to the forward said. The announcement is set for 3 p.m.; exactly 24 hours from now!
2:00 p.m. SHOOTER ALERT! NYC's Chris Fouch will wait and see who's interested this spring. He's not sure what he wants to do, according to a source, so he'll let the period pass without action.
12:32 Reggie Evans, Tyreke's brother, confirmed there will be no signing during the early period. Evan Daniels reports that he'll visit Memphis (date TBD). The Louisville visit is contingent on his comfort level. Tyreke plays in Louisville a few weeks from now so that's a good chance to meet face-to-face again.
12:20 p.m. Before the summer, Miami accepted a commitment from Quincy Roberts out of Harrisburg. It's not going to happen and he will not be signing on Wednesday. We expect him to achieve mid-level interest through the spring.
12:08 p.m. Ater Majok is unlikely to sign during the early period. Sources close to him indicate "he's evaluating his options." Majok, a big time power forward with Aussie ties, visited Maryland officially and Baylor unofficially. He's in the States for 5 weeks and will play with The Heat of Virginia against selected teams. Maryland watched him play the other night.
11:51 Evan Daniels checks in with this nugget. University Heights is conducting its version of Midnight Madness on Friday. That means Scotty Hopson will sign his letter Friday night with Mississippi State. In other words, if the letter doesn't arrive until later in the week, we've got your explanation in advance.
11:37 "I think I'm going to wait until the spring," guard Cardell McFarland (Bridgton Academy) said. The combo guard cut from the mid-major Tyreese Rice mold could heat up his recruitment with a big showing at this weekend's National Prep Showcase. Purdue, North Texas, Iowa, Middle Tennessee State, Morehead State and Western Kentucky are keeping tabs.
11:22 a.m. We don't have a time yet for the press conference of Mount Vernon's Kevin Jones. We do know that over the weekend he stopped by Seton Hall, Rutgers and St. John's; indications are the locals are still involved heavily. UMass, Indiana, West Virginia and Pitt round out the list.
11:05 a.m. Late Monday night word began circulating in regards to J'Covan Brown. Could Texas be on the verge of a commitment? Maybe but not so fast. We're hearing Cincinnati and Oklahoma State are working him hard. LSU, Kentucky and Auburn are in the mix on the periphery. Will he sign? Stay tuned.
10:30 a.m. It would be a huge shocker if Chris Singleton doesn't pick Florida State on Wednesday. Add up the pieces of the puzzle and it makes sense. Leonard Hamilton received a contract extension last week. Then, a few days later, Singleton's teammate Pierre Jordan pledges his allegiance. If it sounds like the 'Noles and looks like it's the 'Noles then it's gotta be FSU. Barring a rally, we'll take FSU. BTW, Hamilton has done a great job inking Top 100 bigs during his tenure in Tallahassee.
