In what could be one of the bigger surprises of the early signing period, Scotty Hopson has chosen not to sign with Mississippi State at this time.

"Right now I don't think I'm going to sign," Hopson, who is ranked the 3rd best small forward in the 2008 class, said. "I'm not going to sign."

According to sources, Hopson, who gave the Bulldogs a commitment in mid-June, was planning to sign during a school function at Hopkinsville (Ky.) University Heights on Friday. His AAU coach, Mike Artis, confirmed this, as did Hopson in an interview done this afternoon.

Then this evening, Scotty Hopson changed his tune, and informed Scout.com that he was unsure when he would sign his Letter of Intent.

"I just don't feel like it's the time right now," Hopson said. "It's just not time for me to sign right now. That was a decision that me and my family made."

When asked about Mississippi State's status, Hopson said he is still committed to the Bulldogs.

"I'm still focused on Mississippi State," Hopson said. "I'm just not planning on signing right now."

Hopson is ranked the 11th best player by Scout.com.
