Brown Steps Up Commits, Doesn't Sign

J'Covan Brown, one of the highest-remaining players on the board, made a public announcement in front of 25 onlookers today. He's headed to Texas.

The drama ended – almost – this afternoon in regards to combo guard J'Covan Brown. The 6-foot-2 Port Arthur (Tex.) Memorial standout took his name off the best available board and committed to Rick Barnes' Texas Longhorns.

"He made his decision today at about 1:30," Memorial coach Terrul Henderson said. "It came down to Cincinnati, Oklahoma State and Texas. It came down to what J'Covan wanted to do. His dad made a statement that he's not going to sign but he made a commitment today."

That's right, the drama remains in the Brown Saga. At this point, we aren't sure when he'll sign – early or late – only that for now Texas is leading the race.

"His dad stated that they weren't going to sign now. That's a good question. He made a public announcement. He committed to Texas today. All the calls, maybe he's gonna commit … it was done today at 1:30."

Brown is ranked as the No. 40 prospect in America.
