Turner Headed To The Pac-10

Durham native Chris Turner is heading West. On Thursday, Turner found a new home in the Pac-10 conference.

Jay John knows his way around the state of North Carolina these days. Late Thursday night, wing Chris Turner, a N.C. native, pledged to the Oregon State Beavers. The 6-foot-5 Turner had interest from Seton Hall, Cincinnati, George Mason, Baylor and Maryland.

Turner began his high school career at Northern Durham High before moving onto Patterson Prep and is now outside Houston at Christian Life Center.

Through the relocation, while some programs wavered, the Beavers remained hot on his trail. Last year, Turner's friend and former D-One Sports teammate Sean Carter enrolled at OSU.

"It was a couple of things," traveling team coach Greg Moulden said of Turner's pledge. "He has a relationship with Sean Carter; that's one of his best friends. After he left and went to Patterson and then to Christian Life Oregon State stayed on him the whole time. They were concerned about grades and made sure he was going to get qualified. "

A noted scorer, Turner brings the ability to find the bottom of the net to Corvallis. "Basically, they're one of the top defensive teams in the nation. They struggle scoring the ball and that's pretty much his M.O. He feels like he can come in and be an instant scorer for that program. "
