Patterson Finds Comfort In Big East Team

Late Thursday night, a Big East program rung in the new year with a commitment from Lamar Patterson. The 2009 wing took himself off the board.

It was 11 p.m. Thursday night and Jamie Dixon was watching film of the Pittsburgh Panthers next opponent when the phone rang. On the other end was Lancaster (Pa.) McCaskey small forward Lamar Patterson.

"I committed to Pittsburgh last night," Patterson told The 6-foot-5, 220-pound junior wing averages 22 points for his high school team and also thought about Virginia, Marquette, Miami, Rutgers and Penn State.

"I thought it was the place for me," Patterson said. "It was a gut feeling and I took it." Patterson was on campus for the Panthers game against Oklahoma State earlier this month.

A scorer by trade, he's got a strong body built for contact and the mentality of a Pittsburgh wing.

"They see me as a two guard. They like my shot and that I see the floor."

Patterson now becomes a recruiter for the Panthers. "We're trying to get that big kid Zeke Marshall."
