Simpkins Makes His Pick

The flurry of commitments continued on Sunday, as Matt Simpkins ended his recruitment during an official visit to a Conference USA school.

The Memphis Tigers strengthened their inside game Saturday afternoon when they gained a verbal commitment from Patterson (N.C.) School standout Matt Simpkins.

"They've been recruiting me for a long time," Simpkins said. "That's the school I really wanted to go to. They were on the top of my list and I just needed to wait until I took the test and was able to come on my official visit and see what it was like."

"All I needed to do was to come out here and see the school and the campus and talk to the coach and to the players and basically just sum up my decision," he added.

The 6-foot-9, 200-pound power forward had his list narrowed down to Memphis, California and Washington, but felt most comfortable with the Tigers and their style of play.

"They talked to me about their offense and how I'll fit in their offense," Simpkins said. "Their style of play is perfect for my play and what I like to do and my strengths."

Simpkins is the second 2008 prospect to give the Tigers a verbal commitment. They also have Angel Garcia, of East Chicago (In.) Central, on board. Simpkins is rated as a four star prospect.
