Ater Majok isn't in the States but that won't stop him from making recruiting news in February. In a few weeks the 6-foot-9 power forward will clue us in on who made the final cut.
The next word on Australian power forward Ater Majok
comes down the pipe Feb. 2. According to Edward Smith, Majok's advisor, that's the date Majok will trim his list to 5 and announce his final three official visits (Baylor
previously hosted him).
Previously, Connecticut (recently traveled to Australia), Kansas, UCLA, Oregon and West Virginia have been bantered about.
"All is well in Australia," Smith emailed. "Ater has had a chance to get away from the whole recruiting race and is taking the opportunity to reflect on his choices."
According to Smith, Majok seeks a few characteristics in each program:
comfort level and experience of the staff
quality and depth in the backcourt
a strong presence at center so he can play PF
ability to make a deep run in NCAA Tournament
Fast tempo and pro sets
chemistry and strong national exposure
Majok attends the American International School in Carlingford. Unfortunately, he's not able to watch a lot of "live" games but does keep up with college hoops.
"Ater is a basketball junkie. If he is not in the gym working on his game he is trying to keep up with all the games via the Internet. We do not get many college games out here so we access recorded games. He has be closely monitoring the schools that are recruiting him and he is aware of how they are doing."
