Stephon Lamar, 5-11 JR PG San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine, is a quick lead guard who can get his own shot. Lamar still needs to work on some of the finer points of being a point guard, but he's definitely talented and one to watch in the West Coast class of 2009.
I spoke with Lamar recently and asked about the schools he's heard from to date.
"San Diego, Santa Clara, Fresno State, Arizona State, Cal and San Diego State," said Lamar.
Lamar said two schools have extended scholarship offers.
"San Diego and Santa Clara have offered," said Lamar.
I asked Lamar if he has a favorite.
"I like San Diego State and Cal right now," said Lamar.
Lamar talked a little about the issues he'll consider when choosing a school.
"The education and whether I can come in and make an impact on the team right away," said Lamar. "Location doesn't really matter, but I would like to go somewhere with a good atmosphere."
Lamar says a decision is not imminent.
"I want to commit right after the summer," said Lamar. "I want to be able to play through my senior year without worrying about it."
Lamar said he's averaging 25 points, four assists and four rebounds a game. He said he has a 3.1 GPA.
