Cyclones Strike Again

Larry Eustachy is loading up on guards. He took Curtis Stinson off a highly successful AAU. Now, he's got a commitment from Will Blalock off another fine AAU team.

Larry Eustachy's swing into the New England prep school scene continues. Earlier in the month, he plucked Curtis Stinson off the Winchendon roster. Now, he's added Will Blalock from Bill Barton's Notre Dame Prep team.

"He has given the word to Iowa State," Barton said. "As of yesterday he was all gung ho with Iowa State."

Barton said that Blalock made his official visit to ISU last weekend and George Washington was the other school in the mix. "They are very disappointed," Barton said. "George Washington worked very hard."

Barton has been very pleased with Blalock on the court but his work in the classroom, says the coach, has been nothing short of amazing. "He's unbelievable. I cannot say enough good things about him. He's no worse than tied for the best kid [academically] we have here. He's been to every extra help session and every study hall. He's above my expectations academically. He's just been tremendous.

"Basketball wise he's been as advertised. He's a great defender. We're working on his shot and playing without the ball. If he can play defense, he'll play a lot."
