Badgers Future Front Court Intact

Brian Butch stepped up the plate. Finally, it was his turn to bat. On Wednesday, he hit one out of the park for the Wisconsin Badgers.

Badgers Keep Star Home

The major recruiting war between Wisconsin, North Carolina, Kansas and Marquette is over. On Wednesday, Brian Butch stood up and announced to a live audience and pool of listeners via the internet that he was headed to Wisconsin. The broadcast was barely audible but you couldn't miss the key phrase.

"I'm going to go to the University of Wisconsin," Butch said. At least that's what we were able to interpret from a scratchy press conference feed amidst a throng of what presumably were cheering family, friends and students.

Butch, our No. 7 ranked player in preseason list, visited each of the schools before making his much anticipated decision.

As a junior, Butch averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds for Greg Hartjes' Appleton West team. Butch, his family, his coach and his AAU coach were supposed to meet on Tuesday and hammer out the decision. From 5 pm to 9 pm, the phone rang a total of 17 times Hartjes said.

It's conceivable that one day the Badgers could boast the baddest front court in the country. In addition to Butch, the Badgers own a commitment from 2004 center Greg Stiemsma. We ranked Stiemsma among the Top 15 players in the country heading into this season. Together, they'll be quite he imposing pair in the future in Madison.
