Riley Ends His Recruitment

One of the better shooting guards available is off the board, as Freddie Riley committed on an unofficial visit this past weekend.

Florida Atlantic scored a major coup this weekend. Rex Walters and the Owls picked up a verbal commitment from Ocala (Fla.) Vanguard standout Freddie Riley during an unofficial visit.

"He made unofficial visit to the program earlier in the season," Vanguard coach Jim Haley said. "He sort of liked what he saw the visit and then he made an official visit at the end of the season."

"I think after he watched he got a chance to see the school, watch the shootout around and then see the game. I think he got a real good feel for the program overall and Rex Walters."

Riley, who averaged 16 points and six rebounds this season, is a terrific shooter from mid-range out to the three-point line and is an above average athlete.

"He's a big two guard with a nice stroke," Haley said. "He's 6-5 and an adequate ball handler for the two. He's defensive perimeter player, but he needs to improve on some of his defensive skills and become stronger for the more physical rebounding game."

Riley picked Florida Atlantic over strong interest from Kansas State, Miami, Baylor and Marshall. He joins Dago Pena, Shavon Shine and R.J. Hall to make up FAUs 2008 recruiting class.
