Villanueva Makes College Decision

Multiple sources have relayed the information. Charlie Villanueva has reached a decision and we've got the low down on his destination.

Illini To Land Charlie

Charlie Villanueva, according to multiple sources, will announce his intentions to play for the Illinois Fighting Illini in the fall of 2004.

The news will be formally announced at a school press conference on Tuesday at noon. At that time Luol Deng will also make his college announcement. As of late Monday afternoon, Duke had been the talk of the town with Deng.

Villanueva visited Illinois, Indiana, Seton Hall and Villanova. The Illini were the first school to host Charlie. Head coach Bill Self was able to land the program's first recruit from New York of the coach's tenure. Illinois' connection to the area was former Queens College star and current Illini assistant Norm Roberts.

The Illini have assembled another outstanding recruiting class. In addition to Villanueva, a Top 5 player, the Illini have Warren Carter, Brian Randle and super scorer Richard McBride headed to Champaign.

The presence of Villanueva in the class should insure Self of his second McDonald's All-American in as many seasons. The press conference is set for noon on Tuesday at Blair Academy.
