Dowell Commits During Unofficial Visit

Reger Dowell took an unofficial visit to a Southeastern Conference program and he returned home a committed man.

Reger Dowell has had an offer on the table from Alabama for quite some time and on Saturday the 6-foot-1 point guard accepted the scholarship during an unofficial visit.

"I had gone on a visit this past weekend and I've been thinking about committing to Alabama since last summer," Dowell said. "I really like their staff and facilities and academics. I think that it's a good move for me in the long run."

Dowell, a standout at Duncanville (Tex.) High, said he had strong interest from a number of other schools including, Marquette, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Nebraska, SMU and Tulane.

Last summer Dowell went to Alabama's elite basketball camp and that experience is something that helped Dowell with his collegiate decision.

"I remember they had an all-star game for underclassmen and one for the seniors and in the all-star game we scrimmaged against the Alabama players and I remember seeing their players faces and them saying they couldn't believe I was just a sophomore."

"I didn't even really know Mark Gottfiend," he said. "I was being recruited by Coach [Kobie] Baker. When I went down there I played real well and that's when Coach Gottfried got into my recruitment."

Dowell is first junior to commit to the Crimson Tide.
