Oak Hill Beats Lutheran

MOUTH OF WILSON, Va. – The Oak Hill Warriors were able to withstand some early game jitters and used their solid guard play to defeat Philadelphia Lutheran Saturday night 80-71.

Warriors Beat Lutheran By Nine

Philadelphia Lutheran took an early 8 point lead by pounding the ball inside and hitting the boards hard. Oak Hill coach Steve Smith put a quick end to that by inserting 6-9, 300-pound senior Byron Joynes into the game.

With Joynes plugging the middle, the Warriors were able to let their talented guards start firing away from the outside. The Warriors had the score tied at 20 after the first quarter and took a 40- 34 lead into the locker room.

University of Connecticut-bound guard Marcus Williams lead the Warriors with 12 first half points, including a pair of 3s.

The second half belonged to the other two talented guards on Oak Hill's roster this year; Virginia bound senior JR Reynolds and ultra athletic junior Isaiah Swann. Swann lit it up in the second half with 16 points to finish the game with 23.

When Swann wasn't getting the fans out of their seats, Reynolds was flushing Philadelphia Lutheran's hopes down the drain. Reynolds had 12 of his 17 points in the second half, and pulled down 4 rebounds.

Zakee Boyd led Lutheran with 27 points, including 5 3-pointers. DePaul-bound Tyler Smith was not in attendance.

OAK HILL BOX: Swann 23, Reynolds 17, Williams 12, Harris 8, Dacons 7, Scott 6, Joynes 4, Nicks 3.

PHILADELPHIA LUTHERAN BOX: Zakee Boyd 27, Charles Bronson 12, Stan Million 8, Kevin Green 5, Kwan Wimberly 3, Dwayne Birden 6, Maurice Maxwell 10.

Special thanks to William Baldwin for the update. He's a Mouth of Wilson resident and will be covering some Oak Hill home games for us this year!
