Riggs Hoping For Big Summer

D'Mitri Riggs is getting some collegiate interest, but his AAU coach thinks he can play at the highest level and says Riggs will prove that this spring.

D'Mitri Riggs is primed for a big summer. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo guard put together a solid high school season at Bloomington (Ill.) High and his AAU coach, Brandon Bradley, is expecting that to carry over into club ball.

"I think he's going into this summer very similar to the way Jeff Teague did," the Spiece Select coach said. "He's got the label that he doesn't work hard all the time, but he's loaded with ability. He really makes to make it a point to shed that label this summer."

Thus far Riggs has collegiate interest from Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Valparaiso, Missouri State, Wake Forest and Kentucky. Illinois State is the only school that has offered.

"There's a lot of people talking to him, they just really want to see some consistency," Bradley said.

Riggs and Spiece Select will kick off their AAU season in a few weeks at the Real Deal on the Hill. Then the next weekend they'll play in Akron (Ohio) at the King James Shooting Stars Classic.

Riggs will play point guard for his AAU team. Also on the Spiece squad is Purdue verbal commit Jeff Robinson and sophomore standout Justin Martin.
