49ers Score Wing Recruit

The Charlotte 49ers dug out a new recruit this week. Rashad Coleman, a shooting guard out of Heat Academy, picked Bobby Lutz's team this week.

The Charlotte 49ers, coming off a strong season of Atlantic 10 play, lost a ton of perimeter firepower in the person of Leemire Goldwire. One of the kids who may get some of Goldwire's shots is Collinsville (Va.) Heat Academy standout Rashad Coleman.

The 6-foot-5 Coleman drew interest from Oklahoma State and Georgia Tech before selecting the 49ers. "He's a major player," Head Academy coach Jason Nibblett told Scout.com. "He went from a small point guard to a big two guard after he grew two inches."

Coleman, according to Nibblett, averaged 26 points a game this season. His selection of Charlotte hinged on opportunity and access to minutes.

"It was the opportunity to play right away. He sees that they need a two guard and that's where he plays. He thinks he can come in and be an impact player right away.

"He feels that he's not only wanted at Charlotte but he's needed there and that means a lot."
