Andy Brown, 6-8 JR PF Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, is one of the more improved players in the West Coast class of 2009. Brown was getting a lot of attention at the mid major level last year, but he's now hearing from several high majors after a terrific junior season.
I spoke with Brown recently and asked about the programs showing the most interest.
"My top six right now are probably Michigan, Utah, San Diego, Indiana, Washington and Notre Dame," said Brown. "I'm also hearing from Santa Clara, SMU, Penn and Princeton."
Brown said several schools have extended scholarship offers.
"Michigan, Utah, San Diego, Santa Clara and SMU have offered," said Brown. "I'm going out to Michigan for an unofficial visit on the weekend of May 24th."
Brown has already been on an unofficial visit to Notre Dame.
"I went out there for the USC football game. I liked it – kind of reminds me of Mater Dei," said Brown. "I got to spend a little time with the coaches, but I'd probably want to go visit there again before committing."
Brown said he's probably not going to decide anytime soon.
"I think I'll play in the spring and summer, then decide sometime after the summer," said Brown.
