Elijah Johnson, 6-2 JR PG/SG North Las Vegas (Nev.) Cheyenne, is an explosive athlete with a chance to play either guard spot in college. Johnson is adept at creating his own shot, but needs to work on his ability to make others better. However, there is no doubt he has a very high upside if everything comes together for him.
I spoke with Johnson recently when he played for Pump N Run Elite in a scrimmage against the SoCal All-Stars. He listed the schools that have been in contact with him lately.
"UNLV, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA, USC and Arizona State," said Johnson.
I asked if any schools have started to emerge from the pack.
"No, I'm not really even thinking about it," said Johnson. "I'm just focused on school right now."
Johnson took an unofficial visit to Kansas this past season. I asked him for his impressions.
"It was cool -- I liked the atmospher," said Johnson. "A packed gym and they're sold out every night."
I asked Johnson if he plans on taking any more unofficial visits in the near future.
"I don't know about any visits during the summer," said Johnson. "I'll probably wait until after the summer.
Since he was in Los Angeles anyway, Johnson did take a brief unofficial visit to UCLA a day after I spoke with him.
Johnson said he has no plans to make his decision anytime soon.
"It'll be during my senior year," said Johnson. "Maybe in November."
