Crean, Forward Unite In Big Ten

A year ago Tom Crean was eyeballing Bobby Capobianco for the Golden Eagles. Fast forward 12 months and Capobianco is Crean's first IU verbal.

Bobby Capobianco wasn't about to follow Tom Crean to Alaska but Indiana works well for him. The Loveland (Ohio) High product, all 6-foot-8 and 230 pounds of him – committed to the Indiana Hoosiers this week.

Crean tagged Capobianco while he was at Marquette and now what may have been a 7-hour ride to Milwaukee is reduced to a much less taxing drive to Bloomington.

"Marquette was a 7 hour drive and my parents are a huge part," Capobianco said. "With (Crean) at Indiana – it's Indiana basketball. That carries a ton of weight and its an area I'm familiar with. The combination of him and the university it looked like a situation I couldn't turn down."

As a junior, Capobianco averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds. This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of his scholarship offer from Crean. While playing at the Hoopfest in Pittsburgh, the then Marquette coach fell hard for the big man.

Despite Crean's change in scenery, the plan for Capobianco (his first recruit) remains the same.

"From what Coach Crean has told me he has the same vision he had for me at Marquette. He wants me in his system to be the four man. I would be able to guard someone bigger than myself, which would create a mismatch on the other end. I can play on the wing and shoot it so it's a pick your poison."
