Taylor Finds Home In SEC

It came down to a pair of schools for Hobbs small forward Jeff Taylor. On Monday, he made his choice.

Jeff Taylor, small forward out of Hobbs (N.M.) High is headed to the SEC.

"It came down to Texas and Vanderbilt," Taylor told Scout.com. "I love both schools and I love the staffs but I had to go with Vanderbilt. It seems like the right choice for me and my family."

As a senior, Taylor averaged 29.6 points and 12.7 rebounds. Coach Russ Gilmore sees a small forward in Nashville.

"I think he'll be a three man, I would suppose. He handles it well enough for a guard but he's athletic enough to play inside. He can put it down in the floor.

"It's his athletic ability. He can get the ball to the hole, sees the floor really well and his handle is really good. I love his overall athletic ability and he can really score. "

Taylor, who was recruited hard by both schools and Texas since his junior season, found a comfort zone with the team at Vanderbilt.

"What kind of set them apart – aside from the academics – was the team. You look at what they have leaving and they have a lot of wings leaving. They're going to need people to come in and play right away. That's what I was looking for."
