Ford Gets First Commit

The new Kent State staff recently scored their first recruit. We caught up with the recruits coach on Monday.

Geno Ford reeled in his first commitment at Kent State late Sunday night. The new head coach picked up Batesville (Ind.) High standout Alex Grimsley, who is a 6-foot-6 forward.

"I think he just felt comfortable there and with Coach Ford," Batesville coach Mel Seifert said.

According to Seifert, Grimsley picked the Golden Flashes over North Florida, IUPUI, North Georgia and Central Michigan. He also noted that he thinks Grimsley will make an impact at Kent State because of how hard he plays.

"I think one thing that he brings that is immeasurable is heart," he said. "The kid has more heart than anyone I've ever had in coaching. He plays hard all the time and he's athletic. When you take some one that plays hard all the time he's going to do some good things."

Grimsley helped lead Batesville to a 24-3 overall record, which included a 10-0 finish in in their conference.
