Oliver Picks Big East Program

There isn't much left in the 2008 class and on Tuesday another big man feel from the board as Melvin Oliver made his pick.

Melvin Oliver felt comfortable making a decision, so on Tuesday the talented 6-foot-11 big man committed to a Big East program.

"He committed to Seton Hall," Mississippi Elite Christian Academy coach Victor Evans said. "It looks like he's going to sign before the week ends."

"I was sort of surprised when I heard it," Evan continued. "He had just visited Nebraska and the visit went good and he was set to visit Seton Hall next week. It kind of caught me off guard."

Oliver, who is rated as a three-star prospect on Scout.com, picked the Pirates over scholarship offers from Southern Miss, Nebraska and Baylor. UAB and USC had also gotten involved recently.

"Bobby Gonzalez just did a really good job throughout the recruitment," Evans said. "They did a really good job speaking to Melvin and I think that was one of the deciding factors."

"I think it's a good situation for Melvin. There's a lot of exposure he can get in the Big East and playing in New York city. I'm sure all of that played a part in it."

Oliver averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds a game last season, while leading M.E.C.A. to a 20-5 record.
