King James: Day 1 Rundown

AKRON, Ohio – Friday night wasn't more than a warm-up to what is shaping up to be a strong Saturday of action. Myron Respress couldn't deliver his team a win, but he caught our attention during a brief night of action.

Johnnie Lacy, SG/PG, Playground Elite – Step into the time machine and turn it back two years for a visual of Randy Culpepper. The former Memphis guard recently completed his freshman season at UTEP where, as an undersized scoring guard, he got 12 points a game. Lacy reminds us a lot of Culpepper. He's wired up to score and at 5-foot-11, with a sweet jumper he can get buckets.

Jamil Wilson, F, Playground Elite – It wouldn't have been fair to attempt an evaluation. Wilson arrived midway through the first half in street clothes after coming in on a later flight.

C.J. Harris, G, CP3 – It's a big weekend for this young man because the spotlight is on him. CP3 dusted a club and he had the ball in his hands a lot, especially since Reggie Bullock doesn't arrive into town until Saturday. The college coaches are asking: PG or SG and this is his weekend to answer the question. We'll go shooting guard with an uncanny ability to finish at the rim.

Myron Respress, PF, M33M/GC Ballers – Far and away the most competitive kid we saw Friday night. His team was down big and he wasn't about to stand for it. He's active around the rim, has a body he can grow into and will battle inside. He's probably 6-7 and pushing two bills so there's room to grow.

Tashawn Mabry's stroke behind the line looked solid for CP3. … United Celtics PG Malik Stith will attend Brigdton next season as a post graduate. Teammate Hassan Whiteside, a 6-9 center, may be a bit of a sleeper in 2009. …

There's a lot of talk surrounding Jamil Wilson. For starters, he's not going announce anything until next March (his mother's birthday). Michigan State, Indiana and Purdue recently watched him but lots of others in the mix. Here's an interesting note: he mentions Duke but said he's never spoken to Coach K. … Johnnie Lacy has an offer from Marquette with interest from Miami and Tennessee. … Malik Stith, a native New Yorker, has Winthrop, Hofstra, George Mason and Louisville taklng a peek. …
