Macklin Likes Two, Takes First Visit

Former high school all-american Vernon Macklin is visiting an SEC program this weekend and has two schools chasing him.

The Florida Gators moved quickly on former Georgetown big man Vernon Macklin. According to multiple sources, Macklin is set to visit Florida.

The teams competing for Macklin are the Clemson Tigers and Billy Donovan's Gators. Macklin, who has two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out a season, will visit the Gators beginning Thursday.

Should the visit go well, the Gators would then be in position to score a commitment from the former McDonald's All-American. As a sophomore, Macklin averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds. From the outside looking in, he never seemed like a strong fit for the Hoyas who also had a bevy of talented insiders.

In addition to Macklin, the Gators may also be strengthening themselves with Top 20 junior Deshawn Painter. Like Macklin, Painter played for Boo Williams and is a Tidewater area native. The Gators have been pursuing Painter for the past season.

Macklin is a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and Painter will attend the school next season.
