Darius Morrow is going to play his college ball in the Carolinas. The former South Carolina signee found a new home Sunday night.
The first time around, the Pirates were in the mix. The second time, well, East Carolina
simply couldn't be beaten. Darius Morrow
, a 6-foot-9 post player out of Decatur (Ga.) Columbia, signed his NLI Sunday night.
Darryl LaBarrie, a former Georgia Tech player and current East Carolina assistant, jumped on Morrow once he was released from his letter of intent to South Carolina shortly after the coaching change.
Auburn, UAB, West Virginia and Marquette showed interest. Morrow, who averaged 23 points and 13 boards, visited the Pirates and Auburn.
"They really do need a post player," Morrow said of ECU. "They have good shooters. I'd love to come in and help them compete with Memphis for a Conference USA championship. It's a good town, everybody loves ECU and there's no pro teams."
Mack McCarthy's team sought size late in the period and Morrow, who tips the scales at 260, provides the beef and fills a need.
"That's why I choose them. I'm trying to play right away and help them turn the program around."
