Jones Will Play In Bloomington

Verdell Jones is going to play in the Big Ten. On Monday night at a restaurant in town, Jones picked the Hoosiers.

There was a lot of momentum building for Minnesota but Monday night, a Jupiter's Pizza and Billiards in Champaign, hometown standout Verdell Jones made his final college decision.

"Yeah, he just announced that he's going to Indiana," a waitress from the restaurant relayed to Scout.com.

Jones, one of the top guards still on the board this spring, had the ear of Minnesota, Indiana and a host of other programs. The Hoosiers, fresh off an exodus of kids from the program, needed players and the talented Jones fit the bill nicely.

The 6-foot-4, 17 point per game scorer has ties to the staff through assistant coach Tim Buckley. While at Iowa a few seasons back, Buckley became familiar with Jones. The relationship transferred to Marquette where Buckley worked for Crean last season and finally crystallized in Bloomington.

Jones has always been a talent. He'll need to continue adding strength and brings a scorer's approach to the position for the Hoosiers.

Jones attended Champaign (Ill.) Central High and played AAU basketball for his father's Ft. Sooy No Limit team. Jones is ranked the No. 30 point guard in the senior class.
