Tyler Honeycutt, 6-7 JR SF Sylmar (Calif.), has gone from being a mid major prospect a year ago to a high major guy after his showing this spring. While he's still physically immature, Honeycutt's length, skill level and feel for the game make him a terrific prospect. A multi-dimensional player, Honeycutt is an excellent shooter and has very good ball skills overall. He's also a very good shot-blocker. While his frame is a bit narrow, and there is some question about how he ultimately fills out, his skill level is such that he's a definite high major prospect.
I spoke with Honeycutt after his stellar performance at the Cactus Classic and asked about the schools that he's interested in.
"Arizona, Washington and Gonzaga are the main three so far, but I am hearing from other schools," said Honeycutt.
I asked Honeycutt if he will be taking any visits or attending any team camps in June.
"I haven't taken any visits yet, but I'm supposed to go to the UCLA camp, the USC camp and I think the Kansas State camp," said Honeycutt.
Honeycutt talked a little about the issues he'll consider when choosing a school.
"Just how the team is, the campus, the coaches, how the players are and how much I'm going to play," said Honeycutt. "I don't really care about location."
With his recruitment just starting to take off, Honeycutt is understandably not anxious to make a decision.
"I want to wait on it and see who all is looking at me after the summer," said Honeycutt.
I asked Honeycutt if he had a favorite program growing up.
"When I was little, it was UCLA, being from Southern California," said Honeycutt.
Honeycutt told me he has a 3.1 GPA.
