Location May Be Factor For Rudd

Victor Rudd, one of the top forwards in the west for 2009, is hearing from programs across the country. But the talented junior may be looking to stay in the west...

Victor Rudd, 6-8 JR PF Van Nuys (Calif.) High, is one of the more promising prospects in the west for 2009. Rudd has small forward ball skills, he's a very good athlete, and he's got an excellent body. If he plays beyond college basketball it will be as a small forward, but I'm projecting him as a power forward at the college level. Whatever position he plays, though, Rudd has a big upside. With a little more focused approach, he has a chance to be a big-time player.

I spoke with Bill Hankins, Rudd's guardian and club team coach with 2D1 Academy, about Rudd's recruitment recently.

"He's still very interested in USC and he's been to the campus," said Hankins. "Loyola Marymount is in the picture now that Coach Bayno is on board there. Kansas, Tennessee and Memphis have all been calling as well."

I asked Hankins about the issues that might influence his decision.

"He wants to be close to home, which is why I think LMU has a really good shot," said Hankins. "They're trying to get players that can help them compete on a national level and they're looking to recruit athletes on the wing like Victor. But USC is also very high on his list. We haven't heard much from UCLA, but they're another local school that Victor would be intererested in."

Hankins said Rudd currently has a 3.0 GPA.
