Negedu Asks For Release

With the recent developments at Arizona, the Wildcats could lose one of their prime recruits in the 2008 class.

A top 100 big man could be back on the market. Emmanuel Negedu, of Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewester Academy, has asked Arizona to be released from his scholarship.

"He asked Coach [Lute] Olson over the phone on Thursday for his release," Brewster coach Jason Smith said.

"Emmanuel told him the reasons why he wanted to received his release," Smith continued. "His entire coaching staff, all of the assistant coaches, are gone. Coach Olson was on leave of absence this year too."

According to Smith, Negedu not only told him over the phone, but also recently met with Olson in person.

"He has formally told Coach Olson over the phone and then face-to-face that he'd like his release and [he told him] all of the reasons why. I know his guardian and host family in Boston have spoken to Coach Olson and the Athletic Director."

When Negedu, who is ranked No. 50 overall, made his initial decision he picked Arizona over Tennessee and Indiana.

Negedu's club team coach Mark Adams also confirmed that the 6-foot-6, 220-pound big man has asked the Wildcats to be released.
