With questions regarding his age and class going around, the Compton (Calif.) Dominguez standout has had to deal with some adversity. However, the 6-foot-7 wing said his issues have been cleared up.
"I'm officially 09," Hamilton said. "There were some problems because this is going to be my fifth year but I didn't play my freshman year. I came to high school at only 13 years old, so that's why they said I could come back.
"I'm still only 17 and my birthday is in October," Hamilton continued. "When I go into college I'll still be 18."
Despite the stories and allegations, Hamilton, who is ranked No. 17 overall in the 2009 class, is trying to stay focused on having a big senior season.
"I don't let [all of the stories] bother me," he said. "I'm going to come in and they are going to see me in a Dominguez uniform and I think that's what is going to hurt a lot of people."
The Longhorns have been the supposed leader for Hamilton, and he said his trip to Texas is one of the many reasons they are among his favorites.
"When I went there they had great coaches and great guys around them," he said. "The guys are very nice. They are also good and I think I can come in and fit in right away. It's like that with all of the schools I named and they are all wing schools."
Hamilton plans to take unofficial visits to Kansas and Connecticut in the near future. He hasn't set up dates for his visits. The five-star prospect is hoping to make his college decision in October.
