Stover Visits Local School

Anthony Stover, 6-9 JR C La Canada (Calif.) Renaissance Academy, is one of the elite post prospects in the west for 2009. A great shot-blocker, Stover is still growing into his body and his offensive game is not yet developed. However, as he gains strength and coordination, he should be a force in the paint at both ends.

I spoke with Stover recently and asked about the schools expressing interest in him.

"I'm not too serious about anyone yet, but I do really like UCLA a lot," said Stover. "I took a visit there last week and it went great. I enjoyed the campus and I was very impressed with the coaching staff. I got to watch a workout and it was great watching Coach Howland doing various drills with James Keefe and Alfred Aboya."

Stover went on to say, "I'm hearing from Boston College, Oregon State, Gonzaga, Arizona State and Washington," said Stover. "Oregon State and Washington have offered. Also, I've just recently been contacted by Marquette, Louisville and UConn."

Previously, Stover expressed serious interest in Stanford and I asked him about the Cardinal.

"They have dropped down a little for me because I really did like Coach Johnson a lot," said Stover. "But I got a call from Coach Dawkins a while ago and I'm thinking about going up there for another visit. And I'm going to visit Gonzaga sometime in June, but we haven't set a date yet."

Stover has a busy schedule in the next couple months.

"I'm going to the NBA camp and then the UCLA Elite Camp after that," said Stover. "In early July, I'll be in Cincinnati for a tournament, then back to L.A. for the West Coast All-Star camp, then the Three Stripes tournament, then Las Vegas and end with the Best of Summer tournament."

An excellent student, Stover previously told me he has a 3.7 GPA.
