Gulley Headed To Big 12

There were a lot of people who figured Fred Gulley might play in the Big 12. His decision to play in the league shouldn't come as a surprise. However, most didn't see the Cowboys swooping in this late.

This one is going to surprise some folks.

On Friday, Fred Gulley picked up the telephone and called the basketball offices at Oklahoma State. That's right, in the last month the Cowboys maneuvered into the mix for the combo guard and locked him up.

"I had a couple of interviews and I never really mentioned Oklahoma State," the 6-foot-2 Fayetteville (Ark.) High 2009 standout said. "I was holding out until I made my decision."

Missouri, California and Arizona State had gotten in the mix for the senior-to-be who averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists last season.

However, despite established relationships with a lot of programs, the Cowboys fell for Gulley and vice versa.

"I called Coach Ford when he got the job and told him I was interested. I went down there for a visit a week ago and really enjoyed it. I bought into his system and I felt like it was the best fit for me.

"It's a huge relief. Now you just go out and play. You just try and get better for when you do go to college."

A quality student with strong character, Gulley put up solid numbers this spring for the Arkansas Hawks. He'll attend Chris Paul's Academy next weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C.
