Pokes Make Successful Play For Juco

When a juco kid commits the summer before his sophomore season it usually means the kid is pretty good. Those in the know say OSU's latest addition is a significant one.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are rustled up a commitment from a young man many project as the top junior college player in 2009. Trenton Marshall, a 6-foot-5 small forward out of Jones County Junior College is on board.

When a JC freshman makes his pledge with a year to spare, it's a pretty good sign that he's a hot commodity. Marshall was heavily courted by LSU, Mississippi, Alabama and Mississippi State.

The New Orleans native has a tie to OSU and it's in the form of new assistant coach Butch Pierre. "I've known Butch Pierre for a long time. I've known him since he was recruiting me in high school. I feel pretty confident in him."

This past season, Marshall put in work. The first-team all-american averaged 23 points and 7 rebounds a contest.

Like we said, there was an early battle for his services and his pledge to Stillwater is viewed as a strong pickup from the junior college ranks. He'll be expected to have an immediate impact from the wing position under new coach Travis Ford.
