Payne Doesn't Waste Much Time; Picks SEC Team

Cully Payne, of the 2009 class, took a trip to an SEC school this past weekend and he made a commitment shortly after the visit.

It didn't take Cully Payne long to find a new home, after recently decommitting from DePaul. The 6-foot, 160-pound guard is headed to Alabama.

"They had a great college atmosphere and a great coaching staff," Payne said. "It's a real good fit for me to come in as a freshman and play. Their personnel is a real good fit for me. Coach Gottfried is a great guy. Their facilities are unbelievable."

Payne visited Alabama a few weeks ago, then took another trip to their campus for their elite camp this past weekend. During the second trip Payne picked up a scholarship offer and committed to Alabama shortly after the visit.

"I think I"m definitely going to have a way to contribute right away," Payne said. "They are going to have a guard that will be a senior when I'm there, but that's it. I just think it'll be a real good fit for me to come in and contribute right away. I think it's going to be a real good fit."

Payne joins Duncanville (Tex.) High standout Reger Dowell, as the Crimson Tide's two commitments in the 2009 class.

Payne averaged nearly 17 points a game during his junior season at Schaumburg (Ill.) High.
