Greg Smith To Arizona

Greg Smith, one of the best big men in the class of 2009, was hearing from numerous high major programs around the country. However, he's off the board now with a commitment to Arizona...

Greg Smith, 6-8 JR C Vallejo (Calif.) Jesse Bethel, has committed to Arizona, according to his uncle Steve Shelley.

"He said he loved the tradition and he knows they'll need big men when he comes in," said Shelley. "So the chance to play early, at a school that he always liked, was big."

Shelley went on to say, "He said he had two things that he loved -- Arizona and also coach Senque Carey at Fresno State. So it came down to those two things. He said he wished that Coach Carey could go with him to Arizona, but he felt like Coach Carey would understand that Arizona was the place for him."

Smith is a very talented prospect, with a terrific body and high upside. He's made progress in the last year in terms of his ability to score in the paint. He should be a very good rebounder at the next level.

Fresno State, Washington, UNLV, UCLA and USC were among the other schools that expressed interest in Smith prior to his decision.
