Allen Crabbe, 6-3 JR SG Los Angeles (Calif.) Price, is one of the more talented wings in the West Coast class of 2010. While he's always been a very good shooter, Crabbe has really improved the rest of his game in the past year. He's much better at putting the ball on the floor now and he's also paying more attention to the defensive side of the court. With continued development, he's a high major prospect.
I spoke with Crabbe recently and he gave me a list of schools that have been in contact with him.
"Arizona State, Washington, UCLA, Washington State, Texas and LSU," said Crabbe.
When asked if any schools stand out for him, Crabbe replied, "UCLA, Arizona State and Washington are high on my list right now."
Crabbe talked a little about the issues he'll consider in choosing a school.
"A good education is going to be important," said Crabbe. "I want to go to a good school so that if basketball doesn't go through I'll something else to fall back on. And location matters. I want to play somewhere on the West Coast."
Crabbe visited Washington last year (during a game against UCLA) and he was at Arizona State and UCLA for camps last week. I asked him for his impressions of the schools.
On Washington: "I liked Washington a lot and Coach Romar is a good guy," said Crabbe. "I really liked their gym and how everyone was into the game. I liked their crowd."
On UCLA: "I liked them and Coach Howland said he thought I'd have a chance to be a great player," said Crabbe. "He said he's looking forward to recruiting me and they're high on my list. I'd love to stay in California."
On ASU: "I liked the school – it's a big campus. The coach told me about how they're good in terms of business schools and that's important to me. I also liked their staff."
Crabbe isn't in a hurry to make a decision and said he'll probably decide sometime during the beginning of his senior year. He said he has a GPA around 3.3 or 3.4.
