Drake Taps In-Stater For '09

Mark Phelps scored with in-state power forward Reece Uhlenhoop Monday evening.

The Drake Bulldogs are on the board with the Class of 2009. Armed with transfer Ryan Wedel sitting out, new coach Mark Phelps received a commitment from power forward Reece Uhlenhopp Monday night.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pounder committed to the Bulldogs after considering Creighton, Indiana State and Albany.

"I've had several visits with Coach Phelps and we got to know each other very well," Uhlenhoop said. "Today they had an elite camp and I think it's a great fit. They've got everything I'm looking for. He's going to build a great program at Drake and I'm anxious to be a part of it.

Uhlenhoop missed half his junior season at Urbandale (Iowa) High with a stress fracture in his foot. He runs with the All-Iowa Attack program on the summer circuit.

Drake laid out its vision for Uhlenhoop and the match was made.

"With their style of play it's more everybody plays every position. They felt that I was versatile and could fit what they were looking for both inside and outside and with the matchups."
