No. 20 Armwood To The Big East

Isaiah Armwood had enough with the recruiting process. Once he made up his mind it was time to get July started off properly for one Big East program.

The Villanova Wildcats scored a commitment from's No. 20 prospect in the Class of 2009.

Isaiah Armwood, a 6-foot-7 power forward out Rockville (Md.) Montrose Christian, committed to the Wildcats Tuesday afternoon. He visited a month ago but couldn't pull the trigger. After further review, however, Villanova is the winner over Texas and Syracuse.

"I needed more time," Armwood said. "I wasn't sure at the time (after the visit). Then, it stuck in my head and with everything going on, I think it would best for me to spend my fours year there."

Armwood, a versatile and athletic potential combo forward won't be playing anywhere this summer. Instead, he's in summer school focusing on getting himself right in the classroom.

Looking back on the recruiting process – and Villanova had been in good shape since the spring – Armwood recalls Jay Wright's candor and cites it as a big reason for picking the Cats.

"I felt real comfortable. I got to know everyone on the coaching staff and it was all about Villanova. They have an opportunity to come in and make an impact right away.

"You might not like it (what Coach Wright says) but he'll be totally honest with you and you can ask him almost anything. He'll tell you the truth. I asked him about me coming in and playing right away and basically he told me there's nothing I can't do and he looks forward to developing me in all areas of the floor."

The best part about Armwood's game is that he has the potential to expand his skill set and see time on the wing where he's capable of making trifectas. If he begins as a four-man he'll be a match up problem against bigger inside players.
