Buckner Pops To SEC School

With the July evaluation period approaching and plenty of travel coming up, Reggie Buckner opted to make his collegiate decision. He decided on a SEC program.

Reggie Buckner is officially a Rebel. The 6-foot-8, 200 PF made a commitment to Andy Kennedy and the University of Mississippi on Thursday.

"He just committed out of the blue," Buckner's confidant Jerry Anthony confirmed. "He wrapped it up today. He said it just hit him all of the sudden that he wanted to go to Ole Miss, and he said that's the school he wanted to go to."

The Memphis (Tenn.) Manassas standout had a promising spring with the Memphis YOMCA and shot up into Scout.com's Top 100. He's a capable scorer inside, but gets majority of his buckets by using his athleticism and scoring inside.

According to Anthony, Buckner picked Ole Miss over scholarship offers from Missouri and UTEP. Kentucky and Memphis were also involved, but had not offered him a scholarship.

"He said the first reason was because of Torrey Ward, the assistant at Ole Miss," Anthony said. "He felt real comfortable with him and he recruited him more aggressively than any other coach that recruited Reggie. He also mentioned Andy Kennedy, he loves him also."

Buckner, who is ranked No. 90 overall, is the first member of the 2009 class to commit to Mississippi.
