Mason-Griffin Commits To Big 12 Program

One of the better point guards in the 2009 class made his pick just prior to the second evaluation period. Mason-Griffin is headed to the Big 12.

Tommy Mason-Griffin has claimed Oklahoma as his leader for the past few weeks and on Monday, the 5-foot-10 lead man decided to end the speculation and make a commitment to the Sooners.

"I was just looking at the big picture and I think I can come in and make an impact my freshman year," Mason said. "That's what I felt like the best decision was for me."

Throughout July, Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel stalked the talented point guard and made it known that he was among the Sooners top priorities.

"He was at all of my games pretty much throughout the summer," Mason, who will attend Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill, said.

"We had a pretty tight bond," he said of his relationship with Capel. "We've been talking every since I went to OU camp. He just really formed a pretty good relationship and now we are really close."

Mason-Griffin, who has had a big month of July, is currently ranked No. 42 overall in the 2009 class. He's a strong, quick lead man that is great at creating for teammates, but iss also a capable scorer.

"I think I'm going to be able to come in penetrate, find teammates and score when I have to," he said. "I'm just going to be an all-around good teammate."

Mason-Griffin joins Kyle Hardrick, of Lawton (Okla.) Eisenhower, and Steven Pledger, of Virginia Beach (Va.) Atlantic Shores Christian, to make up Oklahoma's current 2009 recruiting class.
