"My mom lives there and I just feel like it's the place for me and I have family there," Howell told Scout.com. "Everybody is behind me and I feel like I fit that program and I can go in there and make an impact."
"I like how the campus is set up, and I have a good relationship with coach [Sidney] Lowe and coach [Larry] Harris."
Brown, who is ranked No. 29 in the 2009 class, informed Howell of his decision and that got the 6-foot-7, 215-pound power forward thinking more about the recruiting process.
"It had a little bit of an affect," Howell said. "We talked about it for a long time and he told me right before he did it that he was about to commit. That's when I started thinking about it and I decided to sit down and make my decision."
