Smith Stays Close To Home

Andrew Smith, in our mind, a sleeper out of the Midwest, is off the board.

The Butler Bulldogs struck with a big prospect on their home turf.

Andrew Smith, a 6-foot-9 center out of Indianapolis (Ind.) Covenant Christian, committed to Butler. "This is the place where Andrew feels like is best for him," Curt Smith, Andrew's father said. "They see winning in life as the goal, not just winning on the wood."

Penn State, Liberty, Ohio and Furman offered Smith but hometown Butler locked him down after attending camp this summer. The rising senior averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds last season.

This May, Smith dotted the radar while playing with Indiana Premier.

"They got serious about recruiting Andrew after they met with them in May," Smith said. "Brad Stevens told him he was their kind of player but needed to see him play live. Butler invited Andrew's high school team in May, they watched him at camp and he played great basketball. I think Matthew Graves or Brad was at every one of Andrew's games in July."
